Who We Help

Our organization supports individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities, which encompass a range of conditions resulting from limitations in physical, cognitive, language, or behavioral areas. These conditions typically emerge during a person’s developmental stage, can affect daily functioning, and often persist throughout their lifetime.

Congratulations to Tara, who is starting retirement at the end of August! In May 1994, Tara started as a habilitation assistant at the Rocky River Adult Training Center. During her tenure, her roles transitioned from a habilitation specialist to a support administrator, habilitation supervisor, and now to a licensed independent social worker. One of her favorite memories is from the 90s when she played in a baseball league with her coworkers. Employees from all sites and departments came together to create teams, play, and go out after games. Individuals served would come to the field to cheer them on. She enjoyed having the best time with everyone! Tara said, "The collaboration and friendships formed were absolutely AMAZING!" Working with people served, their families, and team members is what she likes about her time at Cuyahoga DD. Tara has found pride in assisting others in reaching their full potential. She will cherish the memories and bonds. "Some days were more challenging than others, but at the end of the day, I know I positively impacted them," Tara said. Tara came to work each day knowing her 'why' - making an impact on the individuals we serve. "I never lost sight of that, knowing that I positively impacted those I worked with is what I am most proud of", Tara shared. She is most proud of her integrity and work ethic in supporting people with developmental disabilities. Looking back on her service time, Tara reminisces about how she grew up while working at the Board, having started in her 20s. She can recall all the positive personal and professional changes she has witnessed. "It is always important to remember why we are all here. I have been blessed to work with some really talented and knowledgeable colleagues." In her free time, Tara enjoys visiting Kelleys Island with friends and family at their generational family cottage. She also loves visiting her second favorite place, Hilton Head Island! In retirement, she will continue helping others through a private therapy practice. Tara wants to keep helping others and meeting their needs - these ethics have been instilled in her. She also wants to travel internationally more during retirement. Tara wants to visit her son at Ohio University at Athens, as he is starting his first year. Go Bobcats!
